Adult Classes at Studio Arts are perfect for beginning students and for the more experienced artist who desires lots of individual guidance and relaxing studio time. Our instructors are working artists who understand that considerate, supportive instruction will help your creative spirit expand so you can rapidly gain new skills. No “killer critics” here. Just check out our studio. It is alive with the glowing energy of the children who have just left. Their work is available for viewing to inspire your grown-up soul.

Portraiture and the Figure
Connect with skills of perceptual drawing, mark making and proportion as we begin drawing the entire figure and focus on techniques that loosen the student up. The second 2 weeks will focus on understanding the portrait. The final 4 weeks combine the Portrait with the Figure. Media include; charcoal, china markers, pencils, ink and acrylic paint. We will be working with clothed models.

Advanced Studio
By request! A continuation of both ‘Drawing and Painting’ and ‘Portrait and the Figure’. This class will focus on self-expression. The instructor will introduce artists and art history to enhance each student’s investigations. Technical issues will be supported with individualized instruction.

CREATING WITH HEART I, THE ARTIST'S WAY
Some of us are blocked creatives dreaming of a day when expressive freedom flows from the center of our beings. Balance, connectedness, and self-honoring are our deepest longings. This 13-week class provides the tools you need to discover your blocks and clear them. Our circle will provide support as this awesome power transforms your walk in the world of the imagination. Joanna Jacobus, Psychotherapist; and Barley Vogel, LAA Director; facilitate this spirit-centered class with art play and process work. Join other artists, musicians, dancers, writers, poets, and serious dreamers who wish to work The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Purchase the book for the first class. You will receive a special notebook and homework pages and art supplies for projects. $50 supply fee due upon registration.

Oil Painting
Working from still life and your own projects, this class will focus on learning the use of oil paint through issues of color theory, color mixing, value and com-position. A perfect introduction for the new student to oils: learn about under painting, glazing, chemistry, and great techniques and support. Nice studio support for the more experienced artist as well.

Drawing and Painting
Learn to see as the artist sees! Experience drawing and painting through visual exercises designed to delight and inspire. Work with pencil, charcoal,
watercolor, acrylic and oil while learning proportion, perspective, composition and expressive mark making. Work from life and photos to complete beautiful finished works of art.

Weaving
New to our studio this summer! Create a traditional sampler of different weave structures from plain weave to pick and pick weave structures using a frame loom. Then make landscape wall hanging either abstract or representational.
Next take the weaving techniques learned and create a traditional sampler adding new weave structures such as: brocade, leno, and twill weaves using a four harness loom. Then make a wall hanging either abstract or representational.
