“You grew up here?” an awed parent was asking. “Yes,” I replied. “Come inside and meet my brother, Kevin Vogel, he’s the Director, and he’s real nice.”  Jim  Hastings and I met our Portfolio class of fifteen kids, aged 13-15, on a perfect sky October morning. We went to visit Bob Stuth-Wade’s current landscape show at Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden. Kevin and my sister-in-law Cheryl showed us around the Gallery and introduced us to some gorgeous landscape paintings of different mediums and styles which prepared us well for our drawing excursion in the garden. This time the parents could watch us work! Everyone had a great time avoiding caterpillars and honey bees while creating a BIG continuous line drawing of the garden, culminating in a critique. It was such a treat to romp with students and their families in my favorite place in the world, the Garden at Valley House!
